It is interesting to hear what people in other countries think of issues such as World War
II, the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, nuclear issues and world peace toward the next century.
The letters received so far are quite wide-ranging - from letters of support and approval to those of criticism and objection. |

| Nuclear Testings by India and Pakistan | |
|
In May last year, India conducted a nuclear test and Pakistan followed suit, leaving the world trembling with fear of nuclear proliferation. Having tirelessly worked towards nuclear abolition, we felt indignation towards such testing by the two countries. Immediately we sent letters of protest to the Prime ministers of both countries. After India and Pakistan tested their nuclear devices, we received many letters expressing outrage at the acts. |

As HIBAKUSHA who experienced the horror of nuclear weapons, we have continually sent the message of nuclear abolition and world peace to other countries. However the sad reality is that the more our message is heard, the more people express approval of the atomic-bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, criticizing aggression by the Japanese army during the war. |

| Nuclear issues | |
|
When it comes to nuclear issues, people's opinions are diverse: Some say nuclear weapons are not necessary for humanity and should be removed from earth. Others advocate a nuclear deterrent, claiming that nuclear weapons are indispensable for the maintenance of world peace and nuclear tests should be conducted. Does humanity really need nuclear weapons to keep world peace? What does true peace mean? |
