NO.7 What is the significance of nuclear weapons which destroy the earth? 1998.12.7 Reference number:00080
Kindly aloud me to use the simple English or may be poor English But a strong hope to voice out the wish which keep inside me and many other peoples heart for a long long time.....

To Everyone In This World Who Still Think That There Are Human.

If the Earth can talk, I guess he will scream and cry out very loudly "NOT NUCLEAR AGAIN ". Because he is really very sick right now, he can't take it any longer. The Earth give us a beautiful home, wonderful environment, many people do not appreciate and yet we we destroy it again and again. What is that to prove about NUCLEAR ? What so great about that ? For HUMAN TO KILL HUMAN ? I will say nobody have the right to do that, nobody.....

Does those leaders who are smart enough ever think may be not for the world BUT at least for their own children ? The future of many and many of the children in this world. Can they pay back ? For the people who death, the animals, many things which live in this world, can they pay back ?

I have a lot more to say but I don't think I can type it out here in order. BUT in the bottom of my heart I really cry and beg to those people who want to do any harm to the earth, PLEASE USE YOUR OWN MIND TO THINK, IF YOU ARE STILL HUMAN BEING, STOP IT BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE. REMEMBER THAT EVERYONE IN THIS WORLD NEED PEACE.

someone who need peace and will protest until I die...

NO.(7) Think much of our planet and all living things. 1999.2.11 Reply Reference number:00080
As you say, the earth provides us with beautiful homes and environment without expecting anything in return. Humans who take these blessings for granted manufacture nuclear weapons allowing them even to destroy the earth. Here was the big mistake. The earth is home not only to humans, but to numerous organisms as well. At the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, there is a photo of a horse with heavy burns all over its body caused by the atomic bombing. Anybody who saw that picture would have understood that the victims of wars were not only human beings.

The earth does not belong to humans alone. We need to appreciate our mother earth for all its blessings, and respect the lives of all living things that share the same land. Using nuclear weapons is an act that directly opposes this idea.

NO.6 What's Wrong with Nuclear Testing? 1998.10.16 Country:U.S.A Reference number:00067
Look, in a world of peace no weapons are required. In a world of where one country tries to overtake others, weapons of defence are required. There really is no difference between weapons of defence and aggretion. Have you looked at the record of Japan in WW2? There are many books that paint a very nasty picture. I am very proud that my country stopped it in 1945.

Testing? Sounds good to me.

Do you know that the shelf life of a NUKE is less then 10 years? Yes, some counties still melt old cars down and make new Volkswagons (VW). But hey if you melted down a 10 million dollar ball of plutonium, would you build a VW or a new well tested NUKE?

Now for the 3rd world:

If you took 1 gram of plutonium and divided it into 5 billion parts, and made everyone on earth breath in one part. Well, we would all be dead in 6 months.

So, I hope the 3 world does a real good job building their NUKEs. To do that they need to test. Enjoy the movies, USA made the cameras, the VCRS, Televisions sets and most if not all the radio technology.

I truly regret having received such an ironic opinion as that expressed by you on important matters such as nuclear issues. It is also quite hard for me to overlook your comment on nuclear tests and plutonium. As you are well aware, plutonium is such a deadly harmful substance, so it should be got rid of on this earth.

With regard to nuclear tests, I expressed my opinion on my web-site. I recommend that you have a look at that and hope you will understand from it the sentiments of atomic bomb survivors.

NO.5 Can We Prevent Nuclear Problems? 1998.10.11 Country:U.S.A Reference number:00065
The title, "nuclear test" is a misnomer in as much that countries who engage in such tests are in reality flaunting their nuclear weapon to world. It is more as a demonstration of their new lethal capability than a test.

With each new "test" by formerly non-nuclear nations, the likelihood of proliferation grows exponentially. As more countries are added to the roster of the so-called "nuclear club," the risks of a thermo-nuclear attack also grows exponentially.

Imagine a world where hundreds of nations had a nuclear weapons capability. Imagine that world world filled with Saddam Hussien's, Mohamar Khaddafy's and even Slobodan Milsovich's, all radically nationalistic, drunk with power, all bent on a jihad that only those of the same twisted mentality could even begin to justify. In such a world, it is not likely that a nuclear weapon would be used in an offensive strike, rather inevitable.

The cold war syndrome is about to be overshadowed by a much more intimidating and threatening scenario. Nuclear terrorism. However, this grim destiny is not inevitable if certain bold measures are taken soon while there is still time. Those measures, which I will not elaborate on here for the lack of time, are sadly, but realistically, unlikely. Unless.... unless the few countries with the ability to take such pro-active measures are compelled to do so.

What would compel them? Only the most grave and imminent threat to their national security of course and even then I have my doubts about their collective resolve. Why? History tells us such good nations never recognize their peril until it has come to pass. That is why I say effective pro-active intervention by a global power is not likely.

In closing, it is my estimation that we have less than 5 years before the momentum of nuclear proliferation is unstoppable. You have years, if we're lucky to devise a scheme to limit nuclear proliferation. Good luck.

NO.(5) Let's Gather Our Knowledge and Work Together. 1999.1.29 Reply Reference number:00065
Thank you for your long and precious message. The threat of the confrontation between the two nuclear powers seems to have disappeared since the end of the cold war, but today there is a new threat of nuclear dispersion, as seen in India and Pakistan. Also, as you pointed out, people are frightened by the possibility of international terrorists obtaining nuclear weapons. You did not mention what you thought we could do to prevent the problems of nuclear weapons, but I would like to know your opinion. I say this because we must gather our knowledge and act together in order to avoid the dangerous use of nuclear weapons.

It is true that I need to learn more about these matters, but every day I think of what I can do to achieve world peace and try to act in my own way. One example of my peace activities is my participation in "Abolition 2000," a movement to abolish nuclear testing treaties by the year 2000. Abolition 2000 puts a lot of efforts in collecting signatures from people who are opposed to the use of nuclear weapons. Signature collecting may seem like a small action; however, I am convinced that this kind of non-governmental movement can demolish and abolish nuclear weapons in the long run.

Again, it would be appreciated if you could tell me your opinion of what we can do to reduce and prevent the threat of nuclear weapons.

NO.4 Opposed to Nuclear Testing. 1998.8.30 Reference number:00056
Nuclear tests are not right. They (US) are trying to show or say that they are the ones with power and we are but it will cause a damn war with all of the world one of these days!

NO.(4) Positive Dialogue Leads to Friendly Relation. 1999.1.2 Reply Reference number:00056
As you pointed out, nuclear testing is wrong whatever the reason. On one hand, nuclear countries insist that they will not use nuclear weapons in the first stage, but on the other hand, they spend a large amount of money on nuclear testing. Moreover, it takes huge amount of spending to preserve nuclear weapons as well as to blast the devices. So it is completely meaningless to spend an enormous sum of money on nuclear weapons you may not use.

I think counties around the world should not fear the possible attack from other countries, rather they should make efforts to promote friendships among the countries through positive dialogues, without depending on nuclear deterrence. Friendly relations means a situation in which all the countries are equal, so as you pointed out, there should not be a country like the U.S. which tries to show it's power to others. To strengthen friendly relations, it is essential that counties have educational and cultural exchanges with each other, and in this regard, I am determined to make more positive actions to play an important role. Let us strive for peace!

NO.3 Those Who Developed Nuclear Weapons Should Also Dismantle Them. 1998.8.8 Country:U.S.A Reference number:00049
I believe that the only reason to test nuclear material is to discover the most appropriate manner in which to totally destroy and make the material inert.

I would think that the minds who developed this crap ought to be able to come up with a safe way to destroy it. However, I also believe that until such time as some cost effective method is developed to provide the electrical energy needed that using nuclear power is a reasonable way to do that.

NO.(3) Striving to Achieve a Nuclear Free World. 1999.2.11 Reply Reference number:00049
Thank you very much for your insightful opinion. As you pointed out, if human beings succeed in generating evil weapons, they are also the ones who possess the ability to get rid of them. People who take actions according to their wisdom must get together to eliminate evil weapons. I will also work hard in my own way to make the 21st century a place free from wars and nuclear weapons.

With regard to nuclear energy, A-bomb survivors believe in a basic principle that human beings cannot live with it. We must try to prevent any additional construction of nuclear plants. The world is gradually moving towards the idea of closing down nuclear plants, and I do hope we find substitute energy resources as soon as possible. All nations need to cooperate with each other to develop pollution-free energy resources, such as, solar power, wind ,wave, tidal wave and geothermal energy. At the same time, it is important for each of us to make more effort in reducing energy consumption.

NO.2 Stop the Nuclear Arms Race. 1998.7.20 Reference number:00038
the u.s. goverment can't see that if we have the nuclear capcity to destroy entire cities, then all other countris are gonna want the same. It's a sad fact but we are responsible for the nuclear arms race.

I'm not sure excatly how many countries have nuclear weapons(probably more than anyone knows) but the nuber is climbing. I can only hope and pray that nobody is stupid enough to use another nuclear attack on any country.

I may be only 17 years old but I can see the horrible dangers that come with the hydrogen and other nuclear bombs.we as world need to stop the production of those global destoyersbefore its to late.

NO.(2) Each Individual Can Change the World. 1999.1.2 Reply Reference number:00038
Thank you very much for your valuable opinion. I was very impressed to receive a serious message from a young person like you who will help shoulder the responsibility for the next century.

It is unreasonable that the nuclear-armed nations are opposing other countries' nuclear development while turning a blind eye to their own weapons. More than that, nuclear powers do not understand that their attitude could accelerate the nuclear arms race around the world.

To achieve world peace in its true sense, it is vital not only to put an end to the nuclear arms race and "stop producing global destroyers" (as you wrote), but also to spur on the solidarity of people toward nuclear abolition. To achieve this, it is critical that young people like you take the initiative. To obtain world peace, first take action in whatever way you can. Always be on the alert, gather information, and use your imagination while continuing to take action. I will do my best in my own way, too. Let us strive for world peace!

NO.1 The Importance of Nuclear Development in the Space Age. 1998.7.12 Country:U.S.A Reference number:00035
Greetings to you! Great web site! *smile*

However, the testing of nuclear explosions (NOT weapons) is very important. Even the much maligned atmospheric tests should be resumed.

Nuclear weapons are evil beyond belief. But nuclear explosions are not. There are uses for contained, safe, controlled nuclear explosion tests.

Remember the recent comet scare? A single 10 megaton explosion would vaporize such a comet well above the Earth's atmosphere. And with the Space Age now becoming more of a reality, nuclear explosions will be esential to deep space travel as well as colonization of planets. A mountainous terrain can be leveled with multiple megaton-yield detonations.

And there is also the possible use of continous underground explosions to provide nuclear energy for an entire state.

Well as you can see, mushroom clouds aren't evil, as long as they don't appear over a city.

NO.(1) Immeasurable Menace of Devilish Weapons. 1999.1.29 Reply Reference number:00035
Is it true that a mushroom cloud is not "an evil" as long as it does not appear where people live? Radiation that disperses from nuclear testing travels through the air, dissolves in sea water, and passes national boundaries causing damage to human life. It is also unfortunate that many of those who were engaged in the testing were exposed to radiation.

I am disappointed to hear that a person like you, who fully understands the devilish power of nuclear weapons, still believes that nuclear testing in the atmosphere must be conducted. As long as nuclear weapons exist on this earth, human life will be threaten by their negative effects; therefore, nuclear testing and any nuclear weapon must be abolished from the earth.
